Daniel A. Plotkin, MD, MPH, PhD is a geriatric psychiatrist with over 30 years of experience in providing clinical care, developing and leading clinical programs for older adults with mental health conditions (including dementia), and providing expert medical-legal services. He is Board certified in general psychiatry and in geriatric psychiatry, and he is a member of the clinical faculty at UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles) David Geffen School of Medicine, as a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences, where he continues to teach and supervise psychiatric residents and geriatric psychiatry fellows. Dr. Plotkin was the first Director of the UCLA Alzheimer’s Disease & Memory Disorders Service, and he served on the full-time faculty at UCLA before taking an executive leadership position with a non-profit mental health agency. Dr. Plotkin continues to publish peer-reviewed articles/chapters concerning the mental health of older individuals: he is lead author of “Assessing Undue Influence” in The Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (2016) and Section Editor of Mental Health Issues and Disorders in Elderly Patients, Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual, 2nd Edition (2017). He is a member of The New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles, and he has published and gives presentations on the benefits of psychotherapy for older adults. Dr. Plotkin has provided expert medical-legal services in hundreds of cases over the decades, mainly involving assessment of testamentary and other capacities (e.g., contractual) in older adults, elder abuse, vulnerability to undue influence, and need for conservatorship. He continues to provide clinical and expert services in his private practice in West Los Angeles.

Stern, M.D. is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Geriatrics. He received his medical degree from SUNY Medical Center, Brooklyn N.Y. in 1967 and served his Internship and Residency at Kings County Hospital, also in Brooklyn N.Y. Dr. Stern is a retired Clinical Instructor in Medicine at U.C.L.A. Department of Medicine. He has a private Geriatrics practice in Encino, California and also serves as Medical Director at both the Silverado Memory Care Assisted Living Facility and the ONEgeneration Adult Day Care Health Care Program.

Dr. Stern makes several presentations each year reviewing dementia disorder, healthy aging and the aging gut. Some of his specific presentations have covered topics such as “Dementia, Depression, and Substance Abuse in the Elderly, Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, Diagnosis and Management of Geriatric Syndromes and Nursing Home-Acute Hospital Interface”. In 1972 he received the Rorer Award from the Gastroenterology Research, Southern California Society. Dr. Stern has also been a co-author for several publications dealing with Gastroenterological subjects.
